South Africa, an indigenous black Africa nation, produced Miss world in 1958.
Produced Miss world again in 1974
Produced Miss World in 2014
Produced Miss universe in 2017
But non of the crowned winners represented the wider majority black communities of South Africa. Until emergence of Zozibini Tunzi as the crowned winner of Miss universe 2019. And Zozibini Tunzi has this to say;
“I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me, with my kind of skin and my kind of hair, was never considered to be beautiful. I think that it is time that stops today.”
Everything about her represents her heritage, and I can only begin to imagine how much psychological boost, emotional and mental empowerment that would’ve instilled in her people and the wider African and black communities.
Little wonder she categorically declared on her twitter handle, laying emphasis on her name, she said “I proudly state my name Zozibini Tunzi Miss Universe 2019”
Congratulations and we go again..
