Corruption scandals hit the SSSUC in China.
South Sudan Student Union in China (SSSUC) confirmed to Juba Eye the rising label of corruption student body is currently facing.
The corruption allegations came as a result of five thousand US dollars ($5000) donated to students union by minister of petroleum Hon. EZEKIEL LOL in his recent visit to the People’s Republic of China on bilateral issues with Juba. The money in question was meant to facilitate the union general election on the process.
However, the sources who spoke of anonymity confirmed that some members whose identity are yet to be revealed with their distribution signatures on money by the South Sudan embassy benefited the chance without the knowledge of General students welfare. It is rumored few members from the organizing committee for elections were among the jackpot. Up to now, nobody came out to address the body on whereabouts of the donation or to clear the air.
According to the sources who had access to budgeting list on her own way, each student pocketed 150 dollars and more leaving only 1000 US dollars in the embassy. This is not the first time the Union has been charged for the dishonesty and lack of transparency to its general assembly in China.
A similar amount was donated by the First Lady Mama Ayendit to student body in her last year official invitation with President Salva Kiir and other high ranking government officials to attend (FOCAC) which is Forum On China-Africa Conference held in Beijing.
The money first sparked a lot of hullabaloo in student fraternity of being pocketed by few individuals. A flabbergasted situation which the interim president Mr Biar Atem Biar explained to the public that the money is intact in the union box and we will reserve this until the new leadership is installed as the preparation for the general election are underway. It will be up to the new leadership to decide on what to do with the money.
The student who spoke to us in Beijing talked of frustration towards the future of our hopeful generation of South Sudan which are expected to fight for the total change mentality of extreme selfishness and dishonesty with public funds.
They instead have actually swallowed it all, the venomous roots of corruption from our elders. This is undeniable proof and an extremely accurate forecast of what the future of our country is truly facing now, she added.
The students call on the leadership of South Sudan Union to speed up the election processes so as a new leadership could rescue the possible collapsing of the fraternity. The also argue authorities at the Embassy in China to investigate the matter and held those individuals accountable for their actions to robbed the union funds unconstitutionally.
