At least seven aid workers have been arrested for allegedly stealing humanitarian food ration in Bor, the deputy police commissioner in Jonglei state has said.
The food was meant to be distributed to vulnerable people, including malnourished children and the elderly.
Colonel Chol Achiek Deng said the suspects work for ACTED – South Sudan in Jonglei state as food distributors.
“We are waiting for those of ACTED organization to come and open a case against them. They came with a report that their things are being stolen by their staffs,” he said.
“About seven people have been arrested and there is no anybody who opened a case against them. So now they are now under the police custody.”
Colonel Chol said the unnamed workers were accused and arrested for the disappearance of 160 bags of flour in the ACTED distribution point at Block 4 site in Bor town.
ACTED organization was not immediately available for a comment.
